Practical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on 'Phones, Tablets and Personal Computers

We are considering running a course to help members get to grips with AI on their personal devices. Please read these notes and complete the short questionnaire if this might be of interest.

Why this course?

AI can transform how we use our devices. New tools on personal computers, smart phone and tablets are making tasks easier — from writing and editing documents, to image creation, organisation, searching, and data handling. Our aim is to open your eyes to what’s possible, and to help you start using these new tools with confidence.

Who should consider joining the course

You are only likely to benefit if you can already:

  • Create and edit emails on a computer, tablet, or phone.
  • Use Google search or similar.
  • Copy and paste text or images.

There will be practical group-based exercises to complete so this is not a course where you can sit back and watch someone else do all the work.

What the course might look like

We are exploring two possible formats:

  • One-day workshop: A full day (10:00 am to 4:00 pm) including lunch and breaks, with small-group “breakout” sessions to try different tasks and then share what you’ve learned.
  • Mini-series of sessions: 3 or 4 sessions, each about two hours — giving you time to absorb new skills, practise at home between sessions, and return ready to explore more.
