Six Cradles of Civilisation

Civilisation is said to have originated independently at six different points on the globe known as the “Six cradles of Civilisation” (Mesopotamia, Indus Valley, China, Egypt, Peru and Mexico).

The presentation is a non-historian’s understanding of what these were, their similarities, their differences and how they are believed to have influenced successor cultures. It aims to contextualise these cultures in terms of what preceded them and what was happening in other parts of the world not enjoying the epithet “civilised” during the same historical period (3,500/1,500 BCE) e.g. British Isles.

We will incorporate a break at approximately half time, Refreshments will be available for a small fee.There is lift access to the Sanctuary
