Short Course: Montaigne: Philosopher of Retirement (1)

3 Sessions on Wednesday afternoons 2pm to 4pm

A course in three parts. A mixture of presentation and group discussion. To facilitate this, we anticipate the course will be limited to 15 people.

• Session One - Montaigne takes early retirement. Considering among other things: melancholy, the essay, "holding back", and conversation.
• Session Two - Montaigne and the New World. Considering among yet more things: travels, animals, curiosity, and the affirmation of ordinary life.
• Session Three - The death of Montaigne. Considering last things (amongst others): stoicism and epicureanism, nonchalance, and truthfulness.
